Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is it earned an impressive inspection grade. In fact, inspections turned out to be its best category. In that category, we awarded this facility an A. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that we were able to find information about this nursing home's deficiencies. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Among its many dominant grades, this facility was awarded an excellent long-term care score. In fact, we gave it a score of A in that category. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. After assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 99.14286 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is far higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
Building on its first-rate assessment, this nursing home also was awarded an excellent short-term care score, with a score of A-. Our short-term care grades are vital for people in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. This means a broad scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last item we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 6.4 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
The last area we looked at was nursing. This nursing home was given a favorable nursing rating this year, with a grade of B-. Although this is not quite as strong as some of its other grades, this is nevertheless a decent score in that area. There are a number of criteria within this area. Many of the factors are tied to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in some quality-focused metrics. We like to look at the percent of patients who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. These statistics are decent measures of the quality of nursing care, since better care can reduce these issues.
