Facility Inspections
Although we didn't rate this facility favorably overall, we did give it an excellent score in the category of inspections, where it earned a grade of A-. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
One of this nursing home's more respectable category scores was in the category of long-term care. This proved to be its second most respectable category. In that category, we gave this facility a B-. For prospective residents looking for a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. One of the statistics we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccines. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to a relatively low 90.55118 percent of its patients. The last statistic we assessed was its hospitalization rate. We found that this place had a relatively high 2.94 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Neither its vaccination record nor its hospitalization rate were strengths for this facility in this area.
Nurse Quality
We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating. There are many datapoints within this area. Most of these criteria reflect the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This facility provided 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is below the national average. In addition to being below average in nursing hours per resident, this facility also had poor scores in the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of residents experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This nursing home was at about 150 percent of the national average in both of these statistics. This is a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are preventable with better nursing care. These statistics helped pull down this facility's nursing grade significantly.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to our fourth category, we awarded this facility a grade of D in our short-term care category. This is the nursing home's weakest category grade. Our short-term care scores are meaningful for prospective residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires additional skilled nursing services. This includes a vast scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Based on its score in this category, we weren't stunned to discover that this nursing home is well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its patients based on the data we assessed. The last measure we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 39.5 percent of its patients returning home. This was well below average.
