Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home earned an elite short-term care score. We gave this nursing home an A in this area, which really helped its overall grade. In the area of short-term care, we strive to evaluate measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who returned home from this facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. Nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an A-. Our nursing rating analyzes a handful of datapoints, but the primary consideration is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

In addition, we also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home received impressive long-term care marks in this assessment. We gave them one of our higher grades in that category, with a grade of B. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After we finished assessing the amount of nursing care, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 97.8355 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly can be a life threatening ailment for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home does not leave this to chance. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Since this data is collected by government inspectors, we typically take this one very seriously. One of the more important factors in assessing an inspection report is deficiencies. We suggest you scrutinize the level of severity of those deficiencies. This facility was assessed a category J through K deficiency, which rank among the worst categories of deficiencies. Lastly, we also need to point out that this facility received significant government fines amounting to over $100,000. This often means that a nursing home's poor track record has been an issue for multiple years.
