Registered Staff Hours
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
On the list of its many dominant scores, this nursing home received first-rate long-term care grade. In fact, we awarded it a score of A- in this area. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it typically means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia tragically can be a life or death ailment for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility doesn't leave this to chance. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home was awarded a strong short-term care grade as well. We awarded it one of our higher grades in that category with a grade of B+. Our short-term care grades are believed to be most critical for people requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Unfortunately, it does not appear that this facility submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. The last item we assessed in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that 5.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
The final category we assessed was nursing, in which this facility was given a grade of B. Believe it or not, this turned out to be this nursing home's least impressive category. A nursing home could be doing a lot worse when their weakest grade still is better than most other facilities. In calculating a facility's nursing score, we assess the amount of time nurses are seeing patients and the level of licensure of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a policy of moving a patient at least once a day.
