Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Arguably the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this category typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A. Our nursing grade weighs several datapoints, but the most important one is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home offers an impressive 5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is among the highest totals in the nation. Lastly, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality measures we looked at. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its residents suffering falls leading to serious injury, this nursing home performed as well as any nursing home in the nation. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning our next area, we awarded this facility a grade of A for its long-term care grade. This is a very strong rating. When nursing homes receive this type of score in this category it is usually a good sign for resident care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the datapoints we considered in addition to this facility's above average nursing hours is vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 97.52475 percent of its patients. Vaccines are a great way to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for seniors. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Although it had 1.9 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted score was better than the majority of nursing homes due to it having some more complex patients.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we analyzed is short-term care, where this nursing home was awarded an A-. This topped off a first-rate profile. Only a select few nursing homes received an A- or better in every category. Our short-term care ratings are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a wide spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in the country with 60.1 percent of its patients returning home. Most facilities are below 50 percent in this statistic.
