Facility Inspections
While this facility's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is one of our better scores. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home was hit with 6 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This indicates this facility dodged the more ominous categories of deficiencies. Lastly, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an D. There are several factors within this area. Many of the subcategories relate to the quantity of nurse staffing. This particular facility offered just 3.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This number is far below average. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing scores. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility.
Short-term Care Quality
Sadly, this facility's third highest score was short-term care. However, with a D in this category, it still fared relatively poorly. Short-term care scores are based on a nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The final measure we assessed in this area is the number of residents that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 28.5 percent of its patients returning home. This was quite a bit below the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we scored was long-term care. This facility was given a poor grade of F in this area. Nursing homes that don't fare well in this category typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine medical care we assessed. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 85.36585 percent of its residents, which is not a very encouraging sign. Surprisingly, this facility wasn't as bad as we expected at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Although it had 1.76 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted metric was not bad due to it having some more complicated patients.
