Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of performing well in its overall grade, this facility performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A. Inspection scores are tied to several items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home received strong grades in the area of long-term care as well. Indeed, we awarded it one of our most elite scores in that category with a area of A-. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 94.70589 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Turning to the category of nursing care, this facility didn't perform quite as well in this area as some of the categories discussed above. Nevertheless, a grade of B- in this category is by no means a bad score. The nursing rating is based on several datapoints, however, the main one is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This place averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day, which is not an impressive total. Finally, nursing scores also factor in quality-based measures, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this place performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is often a reliable indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses aids to assist its patients.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Switching gears to our fourth category, this facility really didn't perform very well. With a very poor grade of F in that area, this is obviously this facility's weakest grade. In determining our short-term care ratings, we scrutinize a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This rating is typically a useful assessment of a facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Unfortunately, we learned that this facility offered fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who eventually returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
