Facility Inspections
While this facility's overall grade was not bad, it really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A+ for that category, which is one of our best scores. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are quite minor. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we were able to find deficiency counts for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also was given a favorable score in our long-term care category. We awarded this nursing home a better than average grade of B in that area. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
Our third area we analyzed was short-term care, in which this nursing home was given an F. Our short-term care scores are arguably most critical for individuals requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually utilizes additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not just nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 5.1 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to the final category, this nursing home really didn't perform very well. Due to a very poor grade of F in nursing, this is this facility's poorest category grade. The nursing category consists of many factors, many of which are associated with nursing hours. With just 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were well below average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing scores. This nursing home fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
