While we graded this facility extremely poorly overall, it earned a better long-term care rating this year. We gave it a B- in that area. If you are seeking anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care scores. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were a bit worried that this nursing home provided the vaccine to just 77.24138 percent of its residents. On a more positive note, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.34 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home.

This facility really excelled in the category of nursing, where it earned an C. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our nursing grade assesses many components, however, the most important one is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This particular nursing home provided just 2.9 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This figure is far below average. Lastly, although this nursing home did not rank highly in terms of nursing hours per resident, it performed better in some of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the number of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, this facility performed better than average.

We wanted to note that this nursing home received a lowly F for its inspection rating. An F in this area is very concerning because it usually points to red flags on the nursing home's inspection reports. For places with bad inspection grades, you should focus on any severe deficiencies found on their inspection reports. This particular facility was hit with 5 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only positive thing we found is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they created a threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility also received 3 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.

Historical

The final area we looked at is short-term care, where this nursing home was given a very poor score here as well. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F in this category, which is definitely somewhat alarming. Short-term care grades are generally used to grade a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To provide quality rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to provide higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. With a grade of this caliber for this category, we were not surprised to find that this facility was well below average in two of the key staffing metrics we focus on. It offered far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most nursing homes. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 25.5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
