Nurse Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. There are many criteria within this category. Most of the factors relate to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This place offers an impressive 4.7 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is among the more impressive totals in the state. Lastly, this facility also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed as well as any nursing home the nation in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Facility Inspections
Adding to this nursing home's impressive resume, we awarded this facility an A for our inspections rating. Inspection grades weigh several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this area typically have few severe deficiencies. While this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also wanted to note the fact that this facility received a strong score of A in our long-term care area. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to elite nursing hour statistics, this facility's vaccination record is top notch as well. In fact, this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.45 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we scored is short-term care. We gave this nursing home an acceptable grade in this category, with a C. While this was not on par with some of this facility's other scores, it is nevertheless not a bad grade. In computing our short-term care scores, we look at a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This rating is often a fair assessment of the facility's rehabilitation. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. The final metric we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients who returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 22.5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
