Long-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this facility also received an A+ long-term care grade. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After we finished looking at the volume of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly can be a life threatening condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility does not leave this to chance. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.28 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes.
Facility Inspections
Adding to its impressive category grades, this facility also excelled in the category of inspections, where it received a grade of A. Inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category. Our nursing rating is primarily tied to the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these datapoints as good measures of the caliber of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the next area, this facility was given a strong short-term care score. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- in that category, giving this facility straight A's. Our short-term care scores are based on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a broad range of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. This nursing home provides a decent amount of services from physical therapists and registered nurses based on our assessment. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. It outperformed the majority of facilities in the country in this area with 52.4 percent of its patients returning home. This is a higher rate than most nursing homes.
