Inspection scores are tied to several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this area tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. This turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A-. There are a number of subcategories within this category. Most of the datapoints reflect nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a policy of moving residents even once per day.

Additionally, this facility also was awarded favorable long-term care scores in our assessment. In fact, we awarded it one of our higher scores in that category, with a grade of B+. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 95.60811 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Switching gears to our next category, this nursing home also performed well in the short-term care category. In fact, we gave it a B+ for that area. This wrapped up a very impressive profile. In our short-term care category, we seek to craft a sound gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess a facility's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last metric we assessed in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that 4.6 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home.
