Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this place ended up being a great nursing home is it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this very important category. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This facility also received a dominant long-term care grade. Indeed, this turned out to be its second strongest category grade. In that category, we awarded this facility a grade of A. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it typically means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. After considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also was awarded a high-end short-term care grade. This actually ended up being this facility's third strongest category grade. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of A-. In the area of short-term care, we strive to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Unfortunately, we weren't able to track down registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this facility. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

The last category we analyzed was nursing. This nursing home received a better than average nursing score in our assessment, with a grade of B. While this was not as dominant as many of its other category grades, this remains one of our more favorable scores in that area. Our nursing score weighs quite a few data points, many of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these metrics as good measures of the quality of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
