Facility Inspections
The primary reason this turned out to be a decent nursing home is that it received an elite inspection grade. Its inspection score was far superior to its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave it a grade of A. Arguably the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this category typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this nursing home a favorable score in short-term care. This nursing home earned a grade of B in this area, which is one of our better grades. Our short-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a broad range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The final metric we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who returned home from the nursing home. This place performed as well as just about any nursing home in Ohio in this area with 65.2 percent of its patients returning home. At most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.
Nurse Quality
Another strength of this nursing home is its favorable grade in nursing. We gave them one of our better scores in that area, with an impressive grade of D. Nursing grades are heavily correlated with levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. This place also had terrible marks in some of the quality-based measures to pair with its low nursing hour totals. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and we were quite disappointed. This place was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this measure. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. This statistic helped pull down this nursing home's nursing grade quite a bit.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's least impressive category was long-term care, which is the final area we analyzed. Sadly, it received an F for this area. Even with several decent scores in other areas, this score is nevertheless of a concern so we would like to to make sure you are aware. Nursing homes that don't fare well in this category typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine personal care we assessed. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 80.29739 percent of its residents. This is multiple points lower than average. Surprisingly, this facility was actually decent at limiting hospitalizations. While it had 1.83 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic wasn't as bad since it had more complicated patients. This is its best feature in this category
