Facility Inspections
The primary reason this nursing home received a decent overall score is its excellent health inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better grades in that area, with a grade of A. This is a much better grade than the facility's overall score, which was decent but not in the elite range. Arguably the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this area most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this nursing home an impressive score in short-term care. This nursing home earned a grade of B+ in this area, which happens to be one of our more impressive grades. Our short-term care grades are likely more critical for folks needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally mandates more highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not only nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. The final metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that it was above average in this area with 55.1 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home's next best category was nursing. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this category. The nursing rating is based on many factors. The most heavily weighted variable is the quantity of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provides 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. While this nursing home excelled in terms of quantity of nursing hours, it lagged a bit in certain subcategories that focused on quality. This facility's nursing score was pulled down by its weak performance in the area of minimizing pressure ulcers. In fact, we found that 15.8 percent of this facility's patients suffered from pressure ulcers.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's least impressive area is long-term care, which is the last area we assessed. It received an F in this category. Despite a few respectable grades in other categories, this grade is still alarming so we wanted to draw your attention to it. Nursing homes that do not fare well in this category often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in a few of the areas of routine personal care we assessed. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. We were disappointed to learn that this facility vaccinated a relatively low 71.739136 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this facility was actually decent at limiting hospitalizations. Although it had 2.41 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was not bad since it had more complicated patients. This is its best feature in this category
