Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Our inspection grades are tied to many datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this area typically have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This facility received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This top notch nursing home also excelled in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a score of A+. Only a small group of facilities fared better in this area. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 99.709305 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly can be a life threatening illness for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't roll the dice on this issue. The last datapoint we assessed was the nursing home's hospitalization rate. We found that this nursing home had 1.96 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is middle of the pack in this area.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the category of nursing care, this facility didn't perform quite as well in this area as some of the categories discussed above. Nevertheless, a grade of B- in this category is by no means a bad score. Our nursing grade assesses many factors, however, the main consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home averages 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this datapoint.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we analyzed was short-term care, which turned out to be this facility's least impressive area. We awarded this facility a D in that area. However, we would not judge this nursing home based solely on a single bad category, since it was awarded a few excellent scores in other categories. In our short-term care rating, we endeavor to create a valuable measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we analyze a facility's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. It appears that this place was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients based on the data we considered. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 40.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
