Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

The main reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an excellent inspection score. In fact, its inspection score was far superior to its overall grade. In our inspections category, we gave this facility a grade of A+. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this category most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This place was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to be an immediate threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We also gave this facility a middle of the pack score in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of C. In crafting these long-term care scores, we quantify the nursing home's ability to maintain its permanent residents' health and quality of life. After assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. We were pleased to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. This nursing home also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility's next best score is short-term care. Nevertheless, with a D in this area, it still performed somewhat poorly. In determining our short-term care ratings, we analyze a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly skilled individuals. This grade is frequently a solid measure of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. With a score this poor for this area, we were not stunned to find that this facility was below average in many staffing metrics we focus on. It offered substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other facilities. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics was damning for this facility's short-term care score.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's worst category was nursing, which is the final area we looked at. In this category, we gave this nursing home a grade of D. Our nursing score consists of quite a few components, most of which are based on nursing hours. This facility averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is well below average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing scores. This nursing home performed well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
