Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

The main reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it earned an elite inspection grade. In fact, its inspection grade was far better than its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave this facility an A+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively insignificant. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also gave this nursing home a decent score in the category of nursing care, with a grade of B-. Our nursing rating is primarily based on the facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, our nursing grades also consider quality-based measures, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this facility actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically a reliable indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Many falls could be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses aids to assist its patients.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This facilities next best area was short-term care. We gave it a grade of C in this category. This is essentially a middle of the pack score in this category. In our short-term care rating, we seek to forge a sound gauge for rehabilitation services. In this process, we analyze a facility's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that just 3.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The final area we assessed was long-term care. We awarded this facility a D for the area of long-term care, rendering this the nursing home's least impressive category. Facilities that do not fare well in long-term care typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine healthcare services we assessed. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 93.66667 percent of its residents. This is slightly lower than we expected but still a respectable figure. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
