Long-term Care Quality
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our long-term care grade. Facilities that do well in this category typically provide residents with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. After considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is much higher than most nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively insignificant. While this place had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of C. While this didn't quite match its scores in some of the categories discussed above, this is still a decent score. Our nursing score is based on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home averages just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home fared better in some of the quality measures we assessed. It scored well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the quantity of hours of care provided.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to our final category, this nursing home really didn't fare very well. Due to an abysmal grade of F in this area, this was obviously this nursing home's worst area. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to qualify indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We look at a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. We found that this nursing home was subpar in two of the key staffing areas we focus on. In fact, it supplied fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
