Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
While we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it a B+ for our nursing rating. This score is much more impressive than the nursing home's overall grade. Nursing scores are heavily correlated with nurse staffing levels. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning residents more frequently.
Facility Inspections
This facility received a grade of C for our inspections category. This was certainly a notch above its other category grades. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are quite insignificant. This place was assessed 11 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This indicates this facility dodged the more serious classes of deficiencies. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.

Long-term Care Quality
This facility's next highest category came in the area of long-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a C. In crafting these long-term care scores, we look at the nursing home's personal care services. After assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination record. We were somewhat surprised to discover that this facility vaccinated just 65.860214 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Nevertheless, this facility excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we analyzed was short-term care. Sadly, it received an F in this area, which is a poor grade. Short-term care grades are typically used to assess a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To offer highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. As you might expect, we learned that this nursing home offers significantly less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the typical nursing home. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
