Facility Inspections

Grade: A

We also wanted to emphasize that this facility has received excellent inspections recently. We gave them an impressive grade of A in this category. Arguably the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This means the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also wanted to alert you to the fact that this facility received an elite grade of A- in our short-term care area. Our short-term care ratings are important for individuals needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires more highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a vast spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of patients that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. We found that 6.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B+ for its nursing rating. This is a well above average score in this category. We looked at the skill-level of nurses employed by the facility, as well as the number of hours the nurses worked with residents, in determining our grade in this area. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a protocol of moving residents even once per day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The next area we assessed is long-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a grade of B. This actually turned out to be this facility's weakest area. A facility could be doing a lot worse when it's worst grade still beats out most facilities. Facilities that receive this kind of score in this category tend to provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are kept in good health. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
