Long-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this facility also received an excellent long-term care score, with a grade of A. Nursing homes that excel in this category typically provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. On top of offering very impressive levels of nursing care and other staffing, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients out of the hospital. This combination proved to be effective as this facility also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.88 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A. In calculating our nursing scores, we assess both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of those nurses. This facility provides an incredible 4.8 hours of nursing care per patient daily. Very few nursing homes provide this quantity of nursing care to their patients. Out of that total, many of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home also performed well in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. For example, in terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this place performed better than the national average. This is generally an indicator that a place has reliable quality controls. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented with better nursing care and having a policy of regularly turning residents to prevent bed sores.
Short-term Care Quality
Contributing to its strong assessment, this facility also received an excellent short-term care score, with a grade of A. Short-term care grades are based on a nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a wide spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents that were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that it performed respectably with 47.7 percent of its residents returning home.
Facility Inspections
Turning to our inspection category, this nursing home excelled in that area, which is based on the nursing home's recent inspections. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- for that category. This finished off this place's straight A report card. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
