Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this ended up being a great nursing home is it earned an A+ in our inspections category. This is just about as good as it gets in this very important category. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this category most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This means the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home received high grades in the area of long-term care as well. Consequently, we awarded it one of our most elite grades in that area with a area of A-. For patients looking for a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 81.651375 percent of its patients. This is somewhat less than we expected but still a decent figure. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, at least this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home was awarded a strong short-term care score as well. We gave it one of our better grades in that area with a score of B. Our short-term care grades are critical for residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires more highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a broad scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we weren't able to track down registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this facility. The final metric we considered in this category is the number of residents who returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
The last category we graded was nursing. This nursing home received an impressive nursing grade this year, with a grade of B-. While this wasn't quite as good as several of its other category grades, this remains a decent grade for this area. Our nursing score looks at the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This place provides only 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a somewhat alarming figure as it is well below the national average. Lastly, despite not having the highest total nursing hours per resident, this place performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is typically a good indicator that a place has quality controls in place.
