Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this area typically have very few of these severe deficiencies. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an A. Our nursing grade consists of many datapoints, but the primary one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a system of turning patients more often.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Moving on our third area, we gave this facility a grade of A- for our long-term care rating. This is a dominant grade. When facilities receive this type of grade in this category it is usually a good sign for resident care and indicates that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 98.50746 percent of its patients. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents out of the hospital. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the final category we scored, this facility was awarded a very favorable grade of B+ in our short-term care category. With this grade, the nursing home wrapped up a very favorable report card. In the area of short-term care, we strive to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 4.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
