Facility Inspections
While we were not very complementary of this nursing home's overall score, it actually received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with an A. Inspection ratings are based on several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these inspections. You should especially avoid nursing homes that have severe deficiencies associated with risks to resident well being. While this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning to the area of short-term care, this nursing home was given a grade of just D in this category. Unfortunately, this ended up being one of its best areas. In determining our short-term care grades, we scrutinize a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This score is considered to be a useful assessment of the facility's rehabilitation. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we considered the number of patients that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Nurse Quality
Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. The nursing score includes a host of factors. The most important one is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. This place averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these statistics to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we rated is long-term care. This facility was given a very poor grade of F in this category. For patients looking for a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. One of the statistics we considered after nursing hours was vaccinations. Fortunately, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
