Inspection scores are tied to datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Another one of this facility's higher category grades came in the area of short-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of B+. Short-term care grades are typically used to assess a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To provide high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide better levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last metric we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality
The third area we looked at was long-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a C. Our long-term care scores are based in part on a facility's quantity of nursing care. This means a vast spectrum of personal care services, ranging from help with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. After assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Nurse Quality
The final category we looked at was nursing, turned out to be this facility's worst category. We awarded this facility a grade of D in this category. This really was one of the few weak links in a very solid report card. Our nursing rating weighs many factors, most of which are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also looked at some quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. This place was above average in two of the metrics we considered, with solid marks for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are often good measures of the quality of nursing care provided.
