Facility Inspections
We want to draw your attention to the fact that this facility really outperformed its overall grade in the area of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that area with an A. Our inspection ratings weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better scores in this area generally have few of these severe deficiencies. This facility was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This indicates that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to be an immediate risk to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next best area was short-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of C. Short-term care ratings are based on a facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a vast range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The key is determining what bearing this had on quality of care. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents that returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5.8 percent of this facility's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality
As it turns out, this facility only received a D for its long-term care rating, which is not one of our better scores. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 97.8308 percent of its patients, which is higher than the majority of nursing homes. Surprisingly, this place also keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
Nurse Quality
The last category we analyzed is nursing, is this nursing home's weakest area. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in that area. Our nursing grade analyzes the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of skill of the nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. This place offered only 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. On top of receiving below average marks for total nursing hours, this nursing home was less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing scores. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and found this facility was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this statistic. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that so many bed sores are preventable with better nursing care. This statistic pulled down this facility's nursing score substantially.
