Registered Staff Hours
While we were not high on this facility overall, we gave it a grade of B for our nursing rating. We analyzed the levels of nurses employed by the facility, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses worked with residents, in calculating our grade in this category. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
One of this facility's more favorable category scores was in the category of long-term care. This turned out to be its second best category. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. If you are looking for services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 93.22709 percent of its patients. This is a few points less than we anticipated but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. Nevertheless, this place excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
The next best area we awarded this facility in any area came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of C. In forming our short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to formulate a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The key is determining what bearing this had on the quality of care. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.4 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
The final category we assessed is inspections. This facility didn't receive favorable inspections in recent years. Consequently, we had to give it an F. When a nursing home has this bad of an inspection score, you should expect some severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to patient safety. Amazingly, this particular nursing didn't have any deficiencies on its inspection report. Clearly, this was not the area dragging down its inspection grade. Finally, this facility also received 5 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.
