While this facility's overall grade was not bad, it really excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our best scores. Inspection grades are tied to pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This place was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to cause an imminent threat to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't something to panic about.

This facility also was given a favorable grade in our long-term care category. We gave this facility an above average grade of B in this category. For residents in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 88.20513 percent of its residents. This is slightly below what we anticipated but still a decent figure. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, we were pleased to find nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

We also gave this nursing home a decent score in the category of nursing care, with a grade of C. Our nursing grade is primarily tied to the nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good measures of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the quantity of hours of care provided.

This facility's weakest category was short-term care, which is the last area we looked at. In this area, we gave this facility a grade of just D. Short-term care grades are commonly used to assess a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to provide highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have better levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Unfortunately, we discovered that this place offered fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities.
