Facility Inspections
While we didn't give this nursing home a good overall grade, we did give it a relatively strong grade in the area of inspections, where it earned a B. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some are quite minor. This facility received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to create an immediate risk to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's long-term care rating ended up being one of its more favorable scores. The nursing home was awarded a grade of C in this area. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is an above average statistic. This place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality
We awarded this nursing home just a D for our short-term care rating. This is not a very good score. In our short-term care score, we strive to forge a valuable measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze the facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final item we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 5.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics sunk this nursing home's short-term care grade.
Nurse Quality
The final category we analyzed was nursing. This facility was given a rock bottom grade of F in that category. In computing a facility's nursing grade, we consider the number of hours nurses are caring for residents as well as the level of licensure of the nurses. This place averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is not a very impressive figure. In addition to its subpar nursing hour totals, this nursing home earned poor marks in some of the quality-based metrics we considered in computing our nursing scores. We found that more of this nursing home's patients experienced falls leading to serious injury. We believe that many falls could likely be avoided with better nursing care. This statistic contributed to this nursing home receiving a poor nursing grade.
