Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home excelled in the category of short-term care, with an impressive grade of A in this category. This really boosted its overall grade. Our short-term care grades are believed to be most critical for folks needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing. This includes not just nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home boosted its score in this category by offering more than 50% more physical therapy hours to its residents than the average facility. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the country in this area with 70.5 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most nursing homes.
Facility Inspections
Shockingly, this facility actually earned a good score in inspections as well. In fact, we awarded it a B- for that category, which is one of our better grades. We believe that one of the most critical factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially focus on the severity of those deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 8 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a solid inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Nurse Quality
One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of C. There are numerous datapoints included in this area. Most of the criteria reflect levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides an impressive 4.2 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a greater quantity of nursing than what is provided by most facilities. Lastly, we also factored some quality measures into our nursing grades. Specifically, we looked at the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these datapoints as reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we graded is long-term care, which proved to be a weak spot for this facility. We awarded this nursing home a grade of just D for long-term care. For prospective patients in need of a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 97.63314 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this nursing home fared radically worse with 4.79 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, this figure is more than double the national average.
