This facility really excelled in the category of short-term care, where it earned an A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. If it wasn't for this area, this nursing home's overall score would have been much worse. In the category of short-term care, we attempt to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. We were extremely impressed to find that this facility offers its residents substantially more physical therapist hours than most other nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in the nation in this area with 69.2 percent of its patients returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.

This facility also performed well in the area of inspections. It received one of our highest grades in that category with an B+. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of C. When determining our nursing ratings, we weigh both nursing hours and the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home averages 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Even though this place excelled in terms of quantity of nursing hours, it fell short in some of the subcategories that related to quality. This place's nursing rating was hurt by its weak performance in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers. In fact, we found that 14.3 percent of this nursing home's residents sustained pressure ulcers.

Moving on to the next category, this facility really didn't fare very well. With an abysmal grade of F in long-term care, this is this facility's worst area. Facilities that do not fare well in this category typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine medical care we assessed. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Candidly, we were a bit worried that this facility vaccinated a relatively low 83.333336 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this place was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
