Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of B- in that category. We scrutinized the qualifications of nurses at the facility, as well as the quantity of hours those nurses worked with patients, in determining our rating in this category. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this place actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is generally a good indicator that a place has quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a nursing home provides enough nurses aids to assist its residents.
Short-term Care Quality
We also would like to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home received an F for its short-term care grade. Short-term care ratings are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The final metric we assessed in this area is the number of patients that returned home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.7 percent of its patients returning home.

Facility Inspections
We wanted to point out that this facility received an F for its inspection rating. An F in this category is very concerning because it generally points to red flags on the nursing home's government inspections. We would advise paying special attention to any deficiencies on a facility's inspection reports when it receives this poor of an inspection rating. We suggest you scrutinize the severity of those deficiencies. This particular nursing home had 6 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we can say is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they created a risk to resident health or safety. Lastly, we also need to point out that this facility was assessed large government fines recently totaling more than $100,000. This often means that a bad performance spanned several years.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we rated is long-term care. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this area, which is a very poor score. Nursing homes that don't fare well in long-term care typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine medical care we assessed. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Frankly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home gave the vaccine to a relatively low 89.508194 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
