Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a first-rate nursing home overall, this facility also excelled at short-term care, where it received an elite grade of A+. In determining our short-term care scores, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to devise a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. This facility is the gold standard when it comes to skilled nursing staffing. The facility provided approximately 1.5 times as many physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the typical facility. This is what we like to find when grading a facility in this category. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return home from this facility. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy staffing, we found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in the nation in this area with 64 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an A+. Our nursing score is based on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This nursing home boasts an impressive 3.9 hours of nursing care per patient daily, of which more than one hour of these hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. Lastly, this nursing home also excelled in the quality measures we assessed. It performed as well as any nursing home the nation when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Facility Inspections
This nursing home received a solid inspection report this year as well, with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it earned one of our better grades in that category with a score of B-. Inspection scores account for several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we scored was long-term care, in which this facility was given a C. This actually is this nursing home's worst category. This is still not a poor grade. For prospective patients looking for a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. In addition to providing solid levels of nursing care, this nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to 99.4382 percent of its residents. This figure is higher than the average nursing home. This combination proved to be effective as this nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 1.1 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a much better hospitalization rate than most nursing homes.
