One of the reasons this turned out to be a quality facility is that it earned a very impressive inspection rating. In fact, inspections turned out to be its best category. In this area, we awarded it an A. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor dings aren't something to panic about.

Contributing to its profile, this facility also earned a score of B for its long-term care rating. This is a well above average score in this area. Facilities that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. On top of considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 96.77419 percent of its patients, which is more than most nursing homes. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 2.15 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.

This facility was awarded an impressive short-term care grade as well. We gave it one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B. Short-term care grades are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who returned home from this nursing home. It performed respectably in this area with 47.8 percent of its patients returning home.

The final category we assessed was nursing. This facility received a B- in this area. The nursing grade includes several subcategories. The most important variable is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. This nursing home provides 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also factored a few quality-based metrics into our nursing grades. This facility was relatively weak in some of the data points we focus on, with subpar scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are often good measures of the quality of nursing care available.
