Although this facility's overall grade is not a highlight, it received a somewhat respectable score in the category of inspections. We awarded it a B- for this category, which is not bad. Our inspection scores weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. This place was assessed 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to be an imminent threat to resident health or safety. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. Nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this facility an B-. Nursing scores are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This figure is significantly below the national average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility actually fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it scored well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

The third category we looked at is short-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a B- in this area. In crafting our short-term care grades, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to create a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Unfortunately, this facility was below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. The real question is whether this also affected quality of care. The final metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who returned home from the facility. We found that just 5.6 percent of this facility's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.

The last category we rated is long-term care. We awarded it a C in that category. This is a fair grade in this category. Long-term care ratings are based on a nursing home's volume of nursing care. This includes a broad spectrum of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this facility administered the vaccine to only 63.313606 percent of its residents. Fortunately, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
