Facility Inspections
While this place's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is one of our better scores. Inspection scores account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, CMS flagged this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. This is not what you want to see. We advise you to direct your search elsewhere.
Short-term Care Quality
We were also stunned to find that this nursing home received a somewhat respectable short-term care rating this year. We gave it a grade of B- in that area. Our short-term care grades are believed to be most meaningful for patients in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not merely nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. We found that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.6 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Nurse Quality
Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. The nursing score consists of many factors, most of which are associated with levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing scores. This nursing home fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these datapoints to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we analyzed is long-term care. This nursing home received a poor grade of F in that category. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. We were somewhat surprised to discover that this facility vaccinated just 83.70786 percent of its patients for pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
