While we did not rate this nursing home well overall, we would like to note its decent inspections in recent years. We awarded it a relatively respectable grade of B- in this category. With less than five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared well in this area. This is generally an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a system of turning a resident at least once a day.

The next most favorable area we gave this nursing home in any area came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. Short-term care grades are typically used to gauge a facility's rehabilitation services In order to have good rehabilitation services, facilities generally must offer higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. Unfortunately, this facility was below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we assessed. The important question is whether this also affected quality of care. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that just 6.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

The final category we analyzed is long-term care. This nursing home was awarded a B- for this category. In computing our long-term care scores, we analyze the assistance with daily living received by the facility's residents. One of the factors we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccines. Fortunately, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 98.8024 percent of its patients. This place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
