Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Although we were down on this facility overall, we gave it a B for our nursing rating. This score is more impressive than the facility's overall grade. When computing a facility's nursing rating, we assess the quantity of hours nurses are caring for patients as well as the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

We actually gave this facility a very solid grade in the area of inspections as well. In fact, we gave it a grade of B- in this category. This is better than many nursing homes in this category. Our inspection scores account for several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This facility's third highest area ended up being short-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of C. Short-term care scores are critical for prospective residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires additional highly-skilled nursing. This includes a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The key is determining what bearing this had on quality of care. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 3.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Moving on to the final area, this nursing home really didn't perform well here either. Due to a poor grade of F in long-term care, this is about as bad as it gets. For prospective residents in need of a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccinations. Fortunately, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
