Facility Inspections
In addition to having a decent overall rating, we also would like to point out that this nursing home earned favorable government inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better scores in this area, with a B+. This is a much better score than the nursing home's overall score. Our inspection scores weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this category typically have few of these severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also received a positive score in our short-term care category. We awarded this facility an above average grade of B in this category. In crafting these short-term care scores, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to create a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. Finally, we considered the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. It performed better than most facilities in the country in this area with 51.5 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
An additional reason we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received an A+ nursing rating. Our nursing grade analyzes the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of training of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with residents. This nursing home provides 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these datapoints as predictive measures of the caliber of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the next area, this facility received a respectable long-term care score of C. For prospective patients seeking a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 92.08791 percent of its patients, which is slightly below what we anticipated. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. We found that this facility had 2.28 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this figure is somewhat concerning, this statistic may be skewed for some nursing homes based on the medical complexity of residents.
