This nursing home received a quality overall grade as described above, but we especially would like to emphasize its nearly flawless health inspections in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A in this area. Our inspection scores are based on many items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this category tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This place was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to cause an imminent risk to resident safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Adding to its strong performance in other categories, we gave this facility a grade of B+ for our nursing rating. Our nursing score is based on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of skill of those nurses and the number of hours spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by having a system of turning a resident at least once a day.

This facility is also strong in the category of long-term care, where it received a grade of B. It outpaced most nursing homes in this area. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. Once we concluded our assessment of the volume of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia tragically can be a dangerous illness for nursing home residents so we prefer when a nursing home does not leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

The last category we analyzed is short-term care. In this category, we awarded this facility a favorable grade of B. In the category of short-term care, we try to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 3.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
