Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of faring well overall, this facility received a nearly flawless inspection report. Consequently, it received one of our best grades in that category with an A+. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Among its many high-end grades, this facility was given an excellent long-term care score. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A in this category. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccinations. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a proven method to minimize unnecessary deaths for the nursing home population. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also want to point out the fact that this facility received a top-shelf grade of A- in our short-term care area. Short-term care grades are often employed to grade a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation In order to provide highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to provide higher levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this nursing home submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that 6.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Switching gears to the next category, this facility received a high-end nursing rating. We awarded it a grade of B+ in this category, rounding out one of our more favorable profiles. When computing our nursing ratings, we assess both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of turning patients more frequently.
