Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In addition to performing well in its overall grade, this nursing home received even higher grades in our short-term care rating. In fact, it earned one of our highest grades in that area with an A. In our short-term care score, we strive to create a valuable barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we assess a nursing home's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. It does not look like this nursing home provided information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients that were able to return home from this nursing home. This nursing home performed better in this area than in its staffing levels. This place fared as well as just about any nursing home with 67.3 percent of its residents returning home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. In that area, we gave this facility an A-. Our nursing grade is based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This nursing home averages 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

This facility also performed at a high level in the area of inspections. It received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. It earned one of our best grades in that category with a grade of B+. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The final category we analyzed was nursing, was this facility's least impressive category. We gave this facility a D in that area. This really is one of just a few dings on a strong profile. For patients in need of a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
