In addition to faring well overall, this nursing home received a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our best scores in that area with an A+. Inspection ratings weigh several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. This facility also excelled in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a score of A. Not many nursing homes received a better grade in this category. In the area of short-term care, we try to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. The third category we looked at was long-term care. Adding to its dominant resume, this facility also performed well in that area. In fact, we gave it a grade of of A in the area. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 88.679245 percent of its residents. This is somewhat lower than we anticipated. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to the fourth area, this nursing home was given an excellent nursing grade. We gave it a grade of A- in this category, giving this facility straight A's. Nursing scores are largely tied to a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a protocol of turning a resident at least once a day.
