Facility Inspections
In addition to being a great facility overall, it also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections are virtually flawless. Inspection scores are tied to many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This high end facility also was superb in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of A+. Only a small group of nursing homes fared better in this category. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. After assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 87.17949 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which happens to be a few points less than we anticipated but still a decent figure. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility also was superb in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our short-term care grade is generally used to assess a nursing home's rehabilitation services In order to offer highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.2 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to the final area, this nursing home received a very strong nursing score. We awarded it a grade of A in this category, resulting in this facility receiving straight A's. We looked at the levels of nurses at the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses spent with patients, in determining our score in this area. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some quality-based measures in this category. This facility fared well in some of the quality measures we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home performed better than the national average. This is generally an indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented with better nursing care.
