One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received a very strong nursing grade. In fact, this turned out to be its best category. In this category, we awarded this facility an A. Our nursing category assesses quite a few factors, many of which are tied to nursing hours. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Adding to its impressive category grades, this facility also excelled in the category of inspections, where it earned an A. Inspection scores weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area usually have very few severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

We also would like to alert you to the fact that this nursing home was awarded a high-end score of A in our short-term care area. Our short-term care grades are important for residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires more highly-skilled nursing. This means a wide spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 6.1 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

The last area we looked at was long-term care. This nursing home was given an above average long-term care grade in our assessment, with a B-. Although this was not as strong as many of its other grades, this is still a respectable score in this category. If you are looking for anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at long-term care scores. After looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. We were optimistic to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 99.63899 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Lastly, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
