Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of receiving a strong overall score, this nursing home also received top notch inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our best scores in this category, with an A. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this area most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This facility was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to be an imminent risk to patient health or safety. A few relatively minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also gave this facility a score of A for our short-term care score. In the category of short-term care, we strive to qualify measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last measure we considered in this category is the percentage of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that 5.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. The nursing rating considers several factors. The most heavily weighted factor is the number of hours nurses spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of turning a resident even once per day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final category we scored is this nursing home's worst area. Nevertheless, even in its worst category we still gave it a decent grade of B- in our long-term care category. Long-term care grades assess a nursing home's assistance with daily living instead of the skilled nursing or medical services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. We were optimistic to learn that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
