Facility Inspections
While this facility's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we gave it an A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection scores are based on datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these reports. Most importantly, you should avoid facilities that have severe deficiencies linked to endangerment of patients. This facility was assessed 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This means that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to cause an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also didn't grade out poorly in the area of long-term care. Indeed, we awarded it a C for that area, which ended up being among its more favorable grades. For long-term care residents, the primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 57.74648 percent of its patients. This is several points less than what we expected. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. With 1.92 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this place was also below the national average.
Nurse Quality
This facility ended up receiving rock bottom score in our nursing category. It received an F in this category. We scrutinized the levels of nurses at the facility, as well as the quantity of hours those nurses were with patients, in calculating our grade in this area. This facility provided just 3.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To go along with its low total nursing hours per patient, this place had bad marks in many of the quality-based metrics we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining falls leading to major injury. This nursing home was at more than 150 percent of the national average in this statistic. This is quite concerning in light of the fact that so many falls could be avoided with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the facility's fate of receiving a poor nursing score.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to our last area, this facility didn't perform well in this area either. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in short-term care, this is just about as bad as it gets. Our short-term care scores are vital for residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other facilities. The final item we assessed in this area is the number of residents who eventually returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 34 percent of its residents returning home.
