Registered Staff Hours
Although this facility's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it performed pretty well in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B+ for that area, which is one of our better scores. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. It is generally in your best interest to avoid nursing homes that have too many deficiencies. Although this place had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the category of long-term care, this nursing home was given a grade of just D in this category. Unfortunately, this ended up being one of its better features. Nursing homes that do not fare well in long-term care typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine medical care we looked at. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. We were a bit alarmed this nursing home vaccinated 65.38461 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is significantly less than the national average. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
Does this page answer your questions about Havencare Nursing and Rehabilitation Center?
This facility ended up receiving rock bottom score in our nursing category. It received an F in this category. Our nursing rating is based on the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of skill of those nurses as well as the number of hours spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing scores. This nursing home performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed was short-term care. We gave it a lowly F in this area, which is a bottom of the barrel score. With our short-term care score, we attempt to create a sound measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess the facility's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Given its poor score in this area, we weren't shocked to learn this place offers substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents that were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
