Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this nursing home's overall performance, it actually received an impressive inspection report this year with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that category with a B+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively minor. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's long-term care grade is one of its higher grades. The nursing home was given a B- in this category. Our long-term care scores are based on a facility's amount of care. This includes a broad spectrum of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine medical services. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Candidly, we were a bit alarmed this nursing home administered the vaccine to only 53.57143 percent of its residents. Nevertheless, this nursing home excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality
Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its nursing grade, which was actually one of its better category grades. Our nursing rating weighs several subcategories. The most heavily weighted one is the quantity of hours nurses spent with patients. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This facility performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we scored is short-term care, where this facility was given a rock bottom score in this category as well. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F in this category, which is definitely very concerning. In crafting these short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to formulate a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Not surprisingly, we learned that this place offers substantially less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than a typical facility. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents that were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
