Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a score of A- for our long-term care score. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 88.88889 percent of its residents, which is a bit less than we were hoping for. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, at least this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality
The third area we assessed is short-term care, where this facility was awarded a B- in this category. Short-term care scores are important for individuals in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a vast range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we weren't able to locate information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who eventually returned home from this nursing home. We found that 5.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below the national average.
Nurse Quality
The last area we looked at was nursing, in which this nursing home received a C. Although this is its least impressive category score, this is still not a poor grade. Nursing scores are based largely on quantity of nursing care available. This particular facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This figure is far below average. Lastly, although this nursing home got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in a few of our quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this statistic.
