Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great facility is that it received a very impressive long-term care grade. This was its best grade. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of A. Facilities that excel in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 97.3822 percent of its patients, which is far higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Contributing to its dominant profile, this facility also performed well in our short-term care category. In fact, we gave it a score of A in that area. Our short-term care scores are believed to be more meaningful for folks in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A-. Our nursing score is based on quite a few datapoints, most of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving a resident even once per day.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Turning to our inspection category, this nursing home excelled in that area, which is based on the facility's recent government inspection reports. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that category. This wrapped up its straight A report card. Inspection ratings are tied to data points located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this area typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
