The main reason this nursing home received a decent overall score is its impeccable government inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better grades in that area, with a grade of A. This is a much better score than the facility's overall grade, which was decent but not in the elite range. Our inspection ratings are based on many items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this area have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

We also would like to point out that this facility received a great long-term care score. In fact, we awarded it one of our highest grades in that area with a score of A-. For prospective residents seeking a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. On top of considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 89.58051 percent of its patients, which is slightly lower than we expected. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, we were pleased to find nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

As it turns out, this nursing home only earned a D for its short-term care grade, which is not one of our better scores. Our short-term care ratings are critical for people requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a vast spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. In this nursing home's case, we found that it provided less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than a typical facility. The final measure we considered in this area is the number of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 0 percent of its patients returning home. This was well below average.

This facility's worst area is nursing, which is the last category we scored. It received a lowly F for this area. In spite of a few respectable scores in other categories, this score is still alarming so we would like to to make sure you are aware. The nursing grade weighs many data points, however, the main one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. With just 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, this place's nurse staffing levels were well below average. Finally, we also looked at some quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This place was above average in two of the major statistics we focus on, with good marks for avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable measures of the quality of nursing care provided.
